Two kinds of Tucson tour
Many of the best-known tours around Tucson are run by the sights themselves. The Sabino Canyon tram, the museum tram at the Pima museum, the underground tour at the Titan Missile Museum and the cave tours at Kartchner are booked or bought with the operator, and the tour is part of the visit. They are listed in the comparison below with their 2026 prices.
The second kind is a guided activity sold by a local company: a walking tour of Downtown or Barrio Viejo, a food tour, a hot air balloon flight, a horseback ride, a guided desert hike or an evening of stargazing at Kitt Peak. Those are in the tour list on this page, with live prices and availability. This site is independent and has no link to any operator.

Guided activities in and around the city
What the common local tours are, and what to look at in each listing.
Walking tours
Guided walks of about two hours cover Downtown and the El Presidio area, or Barrio Viejo with its adobe row houses. In summer they work best early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Check the meeting point in the listing.
Food tours
Tucson is a UNESCO City of Gastronomy. A typical food tour runs three hours with several tastings. Read the list of included dishes and note whether transport and tips are extra.
Food in Tucson โDesert hikes and horseback rides
A guided hike with a naturalist takes about two hours. Horseback rides are offered for one to two hours. Both start at a trailhead or ranch, not at your hotel, so plan your own way there.
Balloon flights
A balloon ride lasts 45 to 60 minutes in the air, within a morning of about four hours. Flights start at Marana Regional Airport. A hotel transfer is only included with certain options.
Kitt Peak stargazing
Evening programs at the Kitt Peak National Observatory run about 4.5 hours and include telescope viewing and a light meal. The ride up the mountain is not included, so allow time for the drive.
Mount Lemmon: usually a self-drive trip
For Mount Lemmon the typical visit is by rental car. The Catalina Highway climbs 27.2 miles (43.8 km) to the mountain, and the Sky Ride is paid for on the spot. Allow 3 to 6 hours for the round trip. If you do not drive, ask a local operator whether it runs the route on your date before you plan around it.
The Marshall Gulch area has a construction closure from Monday to Thursday until 17 December 2026. The road itself stays open. The Mount Lemmon page has the details.

What to check before you book
The descriptions differ more than the prices do.
The start point
Many tours start at a trailhead, a plaza or an airfield, not at a hotel. Look for the address and for pickup in the listing.
What is included
Entry fees, food, water and transport are included in some tours and not in others. A tour with only a ticket discount is not an all-inclusive pass.
Heat
From June to September, book the earliest slot. Take at least a liter of water per person for outdoor tours.
Weather
Balloon flights, night tours and creek hikes can be canceled for wind, storms or high water. Check the cancellation terms.
Plan the rest of your trip
Tours work best when they fit the season and your base.
Tucson tours: frequently asked questions
What is the best tour in Tucson?
That depends on your interests. For the desert, the Sabino Canyon tram and a guided hike are the usual choices. For history, a walking tour of Downtown or Barrio Viejo, and for the night sky, an evening program at Kitt Peak.
Are there tours of the Boneyard at the Pima museum?
No. The museum says the bus tours of the aircraft storage area have ended permanently. The museum tram costs $10 and stays on the museum grounds.
Do I need to book the Titan Missile Museum tour?
Yes. Online reservations are required for the 45-minute underground tour. A visit to the surface area only costs $7 and needs no reservation.
Can I enter Kartchner Caverns without a tour?
No. The caves can only be visited on guided tours. Photos, phones, bags and water bottles are not allowed in the cave.
Is there a tour from Tucson to Biosphere 2?
Biosphere 2 sells a self-guided app tour of about 75 minutes at $27 online for adults. There is no public transport, so you need a car or a rideshare with a return plan.
