The museum is at 6000 E Valencia Road on the south-east side of Tucson. From Interstate 10, take exit 267 and drive about 2 miles (3 km) east. The operator gives about 2 hours as the drive from Phoenix airport to the museum.

Aircraft stand on the grounds and in indoor halls, so a visit means a lot of walking. In summer the hours are shorter, so go early.

Opening hours

From October to May the museum is open daily from 09:00 to 17:00, with last admission at 15:00. From June to September the hours are 09:00 to 15:00, with last admission at 13:30. The museum is closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Aircraft spread over a large area need time. Plan at least half a day, and more if you add the tram or the Titan Missile Museum.

The museum tram

The tram costs $10 in addition to admission and takes 45 minutes. It runs only on the museum's own grounds. It does not enter the Davis-Monthan Air Force Base and does not show the Boneyard. You buy the ticket with a card at the tram boarding point. There is no advance booking.

Children up to 2 years can sit on a lap without a ticket, one per paying adult. The tram is a good way to see the outdoor aircraft in warm weather without walking the whole site. Add the fare to your budget on top of the ticket price.

The Boneyard bus tour has ended

Older guides still describe a bus tour to the Boneyard, the aircraft storage and regeneration area at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. The museum states that these bus rides have ended for good, with no planned return, following security decisions by the US Air Force. The museum also does not run private Boneyard tours.

That means no ticket, pass or booking can currently get you onto that tour through the museum. A normal museum ticket does not include it.
